Poland’s Foreign Minister Says Starlink “Making Money on War Crimes”

(MENAFN) Poland's top diplomat has launched a scathing attack on Elon Musk's satellite internet network, alleging the technology now fuels Russian military operations targeting Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski leveled explosive charges Tuesday via the X platform, claiming Starlink has been co-opted by Moscow's armed forces to coordinate drone assaults despite international restrictions and corporate pledges to deny service to Russian users.

"Starlink is making money on war crimes," Sikorski declared, asserting that satellite-based connectivity powering Russian unmanned aerial vehicles directly enables strikes against both Ukrainian combatants and noncombatants.

The Polish official's statement marks the latest escalation in an ongoing confrontation between Sikorski and the American technology magnate regarding corporate responsibility and the militarization of commercial space-based systems.

Musk has previously rebuffed critiques from Sikorski and additional European governmental figures. During a high-profile online clash in the previous year, the entrepreneur labeled Sikorski as "a little man" following the minister's examination of Starlink's geopolitical influence and strategic obligations within the Ukraine conflict.

The SpaceX-operated constellation has proven indispensable to Ukraine's resistance efforts following Russia's comprehensive military assault launched in February 2022. The network restored digital communications for Ukrainian armed forces after Russian bombardment crippled substantial portions of the nation's telecommunication systems. Kyiv authorities have acknowledged the platform's critical contribution to sustaining operational command structures and tactical coordination across combat zones.

Nevertheless, intelligence assessments emerging from 2023 onward have indicated Russian military units may have obtained unauthorized Starlink access.
